  • Day 1: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

On arrival in Vic Falls, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This afternoon you will take a guided tour of the spectacular Victoria Falls.  Known as Mosi-oe-Tunya, or the smoke that thunders, this is without doubt one of the greatest and most unforgettable spectacles on earth.  More than half a million cubic meters of water plummets over the edge every minute, a number that rises to five million cubic meters per minute during the flood season from March to May.

The group will gather at dinner for introductions and a tour briefing.

These next two days are spent exploring the area, with the group or independently in your free time.

There is also adequate free time in these days to undertake an evening boat excursion on the Zambezi River, a scenic flight over the falls, or go microlighting (basically, a hang-glider with a motor), or a boat ride on the Zambezi, all of which are at own expense.  If you need more time to enjoy the areas many activities on offer, you may wish to schedule advance arrival.

  • Day 2: Victoria Falls
The Magnificent Victoria Falls, known locally as "Mosi-oa-Tunya," the Smoke that Thunders.

The morning is free to explore the area further on you own or choosing to join the optional activity:  a walk with the lions!

The lion encounter affords you the opportunity to walk with and cubs being prepared for release into the wild. This activity is at own expense.

This afternoon you will experience the bush from the saddle of one of its largest inhabitants.   On a professionally-guided elephant back safari you wander through the pristine bush and valley of the Masuwe River, homes to numerous wildlife species, including elephants, kudu, buffalo, impala, leopard and even lion (sometimes!).  Each elephant is under the charge of a handler. The excellent birding in this area - over 50 species - will excite bird enthusiasts.

The elephant safari ends with a snack and drinks being served before returning to the lodge in time for dinner.

Gcadikwe Island camp brings it all to you:  nature at its best up close and personal.  Elephants, hippos, lechwe and lions roam the area, trumpet, graze and serenade those fortunate enough to be guests at this intimate and rustic camp site.  Ablutions are communal. A delicious three-course dinner is served alongside the sounds and under the stars of the african night.

  • Days 12-13: Makgadikgadi Pans & Meerkats

After a hearty breakfast this morning, transfer via boat back to the game vehicle then drive back to the Xakanaxa bush airstrip, to catch the onward flight to the Makgadikgadi Pans.  Following a traditional lunch, village and cattlepost visit, we take quad bikes to our overnight campout on the Ntwetwe Pans.  Tonight is a BBQ dinner under spectacular star-studded skies.

Rise early to visit the habituated meerkats, whose foraging, barking, grooming, general antics and highly defined social structure provide endless entertainment and intrigue.   A delicious lunch back at Planet Baobab is followed by siesta time and then a guided walk through the surrounding Baobab forests to learn about the local ecology, geology and the unique biology of these amazing trees.  Libations around the campfire against the backdrop of a flaming sunset precedes another amazing Pan African dinner. The shimmering and ethereal austerity of the area, one of the largest salt pans in the world, makes for a striking contrast to the experiences had thus far.
