Aswan High Dam Adventure Tours

The Aswan High Dam, built in the 1960s, was a critical element in Egypt’s industrialization in the second half of the 20th century. The High Dam was designed to generate electricity to supply the country’s needs and to build on the success of the 1902 Low Dam which mitigated the Nile’s floods and supplied water for irrigation during droughts.

The construction of the dam created Lake Nasser displacing thousands of Nubian people, many of whom resettled in the town of Aswan. Travelers may tour the dam structure itself, as well as visiting ancient sites and temples, like Abu Simbel, Kalabsha, and Philae, which were painstakingly relocated to save them from being inundated by the opening of the dam.
