Adventure Specialist – Africa & Middle-East (Remote)

We’re based in Ann Arbor, MI, with a fully remote team.
We are seeking a full-time, fully remote Adventure Specialist to focus on Africa and the Middle East. Our Adventure Specialists do the central, front-line work of Journeys International – selling, booking, and servicing adventures all around the world. Each responsible for a different region of the world, the individuals in this role build relationships with travelers to understand their hopes and goals, and then follow through with the right trip for each opportunity for exploration.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Respond to incoming travel inquiries and follow up to identify the right destination, style of travel, and specific departure or custom itinerary for each opportunity
- For custom trips, develop proposals and price quotes by understanding traveler needs, communicating with international suppliers, and applying pricing guidelines
- Close deals and collect payment deposits to contribute to collective sales goals
- Book land reservations with overseas suppliers and follow up as needed to ensure itineraries are implemented according to traveler expectations; oversee trip logistics and take an active role in trouble-shooting
- Assemble and communicate traveler support information
- Maintain accurate traveler and trip records in database
- Communicate with travelers throughout planning process to provide personalized advice and service
- Foster ongoing relationships with travelers to encourage repeat travel
- Build relationships with suppliers in assigned destinations and communicate regularly to maintain up-to-date information about itineraries, pricing, hotels, activities, government policies, and current events and to proactively resolve recurring problems
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain accurate marketing information about itineraries and destinations in your geographic region
- Regularly update destination-specific traveler service documents
- Evaluate regional offerings regularly based on profitability, participation, Journeys goals, and competitive landscape and propose new ideas as appropriate
- Participate in Adventure Specialist Team to collaborate on strategies, share information, and improve systems
- Answer phones as needed
- Participate in occasional weekend and evening events
- Travel as appropriate and approved to accompany Journeys groups and develop destination expertise
- Represent Journeys by demonstrating warmth, curiosity, empathy, and adventurous spirit
Employee must have their own quiet work environment with reliable, high-speed Internet access.
A fantastic candidate will be enthusiastic, warm, curious, and appreciate the diversity of global cultures. S/he will be good at working with varied personalities and have experience in customer service. Flexibility, ability to understand different perspectives, willingness to try different approaches, and a track record of problem-solving across cultural differences are important qualities. Ability to multi-task with interruption, set priorities independently, manage time effectively, and keep track of voluminous details are essential skills. We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written communication. Past international travel is important, and experience in Africa is an advantage. This is not an entry-level position, and we seek candidates with at least 3-5 years of related work experience.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Annual starting salary of $45,000
