The trails between the Torres del Paine’s famous craggy mountains are some of the world’s classic trekking routes. Breathtaking views with glaciers, rivers, lakes, forests, and abundant wildlife provide the trip with constantly changing scenarios and experiences. During summer (Nov-Mar), there are 18 hours of daylight, giving explorers plenty of time for the walking journey.
This superbly guided and supported seven-day trek is our favorite trip in Torres del Paine National Park. It is the most comprehensive trekking trip in Patagonia that is suitable for active travelers who are both sensitive to nature and physically fit enough to make demanding hikes of 5-6 hrs/day, and it also includes a couple of days set aside for exploring the areas in and around Punta Arenas. Most of the walks start at one of our local partner’s ecocamps, so just a daypack is carried on the trek. You may want to consider combining this trek with other areas of Chile or Argentina.

Today is the big day, the walk to the base of the Paine Towers. Our big challenge is the steep moraine, a huge mass of boulders that lead to the iconic Towers base, the three granite monoliths that are the remains of a great cirque sheared away by glacial ice. After a tough uphill climb, the Towers rise majestically before us with the glacial lake visible below. Is there any better place to have lunch? After enjoying the view, we will use the same trail to return to EcoCamp for a well-deserved dinner.

Physical demands
This is the right trip for energetic people who like to be active and have a spirit of adventure and a positive attitude. During this trek you will walk a total of 77kms /48,5mi. To enjoy this trek it is essential to be in shape before you arrive. It is not wise to regard this trek as a means of getting into shape or losing excess weight. Start a program of conditioning well before departure.
Important notes During Low and Shoulder Season (October and April), the boat trip to Glacier Grey may be canceled, if this is the case, the itinerary will be modified so you depart from Paine Grande through the Pehoé Lake navigation or Las Carretas trail.
If refugios are unavailable, alternative accommodation will be provided in tents or domes with prior notice.
If you choose a Standard Dome and you are traveling alone, you can share the dome with another person of the same gender and pay the double base price. If you want the dome to yourself, you need to pay a Single Supplement.
Accommodation in the refugio will be provided in comfortable tents or domes, including mat, sleeping bag and a polar fleece liner; our team will set up and dismantle all this. The campsite provides satisfactory bathroom facilities. Meals will be served inside the refugio.
Please note: During Shoulder and Low Season (October and April) the Towers Base Trek excursion might be canceled due to weather conditions and safety concerns.
The climate: The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to the winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. Also, both the strong marine influence and the South Patagonic Icefield influence makes the weather hard to predict. In spring or early summer, fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rains and sometimes snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should be prepared to find strong, cold winds (up to 130 km/hr) and rainfalls. The average summer temperature is 11ºC/52ºF (24ºC max, 2ºC min).
Included in costs
Meals as noted, each night in double occupancy accommodations, land transfers between components, English speaking guides, park or site entry fees, surface transport, equipment other than personal gear, government tax, airport transfer assistance, in-country ticket reconfirmation and check-in assistance (where permitted), complete pre-departure packet, toll-free pre-departure phone assistance.
